Ahmed Hassan Mohammed: Beach Handball legend strives for a third global medal in Heraklion

Qatar’s Ahmed Hassan Mohammed is one of the most experienced players competing at the Senior Beach Handball World Championships in Heraklion. A veteran of six World Championships and a two-time medallist, he is not yet sure if his presence in Heraklion will signaled the end of his global international career, therefore he wants to add one more medal to his trophy cabinet.

"We have been preparing for about a month under the heat in Qatar with the temperatures at 45 degrees Celsius. We have worked hard and we want to succeedhere in Heraklion.

“This is the sixth time at the World Championships for Qatar and for me as well. I’ve played in all previous editions and have won two bronze medals, in 2014 and in 2016.

“I want to win one more medal in Heraklion, because I do not know if I will be fit enough toreturn to a World Championships in two years from now”.

Although Mohammed comes from Doha, a famous international sport hub with plenty state-of-the-art facilities, he is impressed with the venue in Karteros.

“The facilities here are amazing. Everything runs smoothly and the organisers are doing their best to make us feel comfortable.

I didn’t have time to get to know the city because our schedule is very tight".
